Safeguarded data

At Reciprocal, safeguarding client data is of utmost importance. We employ one of the most formidable and resilient approaches, the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), for encrypting and decrypting your sensitive information.

Beyond ensuring the security of data during transmission, we fortify the protection of stored data on servers through the implementation of the AES-256 protocol; thereby preventing any potential leaks or loss of data.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

To enhance the security of our clients' user experience, we employ two-factor authentication (2FA). This robust security system mandates two distinct forms of identification for accessing sensitive information.

The initial factor involves a password, while the second typically entails either a text with a code sent to your smartphone or a code generated by your chosen authenticator application. This dual-layered authentication process adds an extra layer of protection to ensure a secure user environment.

Security good practice

Please promptly contact us if you receive any unexpected messages regarding changes that you have not initiated or requested.

Exercise caution and remain vigilant against phishing emails that may impersonate Reciprocal and solicit your personal or security information, including passwords or login details. It's important to note that we will never request such information via email or text. If you come across a suspicious email or text claiming to be from us, please forward it to our attention at security@reciprocal.cc

Prior to making payments to a new recipient, it is advisable to double-check the payment details for new accounts. Verify such details over email or phone with the respective company for added security.

A settlement account just for you

When settling payments, some providers request that you send funds to their bank account. The problem with this is it mixes their funds, yours and many others also settling payments into a wider pooled bank account. This creates a risk for human error and unintentional misplacing of funds.

Upon opening an account with Reciprocal, we create a virtual settlement account in your name. Essentially your own bank account that only you deposit funds into. This not only boosts the security of your funds but also enables us to process your funds more efficiently, as we don't have to sift through numerous incoming payments within a broader bank account.

Our chosen payment partner

We're proudly partnered with Equals Money to provide payment services to our clients. Equals Money is a well established, award-winning financial institution that was founded in 2005. Since inception, Equals went from strength to strength. They successfully listed as Equals Group PLC on the London Stock Exchange as an AIM-listed business in 2014. An incredible milestone for the company.

Reciprocal plugs directly into Equal's payment network. This means that when you use our payment services, your funds are as secure as if you had opened an account directly with Equals Money.

FCA regulated services

Equals Money UK Limited is FCA regulated under authorisation number 504547. Equals Connect Limited is FCA regulated under authorisation number 671508. Both fall under the Equals Group umbrella.

Reciprocal Payments Limited is an approved introducer for Equals' services and seamlessly integrates into their payment network. This means when you use Reciprocal for its payment services, this is an FCA regulated service under the above FCA licenses.

Safeguarded Funds

We are an Authorised Payment Institution (“API”), authorised by the FCA to carry out activities relating to money remittance, operating a payment account, and issuing and/or acquiring of payment instruments under authorisation number 671508.
In order to make use of the products and services provided by us, you may be instructed by us to send funds to us by way of Equals Money UK Limited (“EMUK”). EMUK is an API, authorised by the FCA under authorisation number 504547 and a member of the same corporate group as us.

As an FCA regulated API, we and EMUK are required to safeguard your funds. This means that when we or EMUK receive money from a customer for the execution of a payment transaction (“Relevant Funds”), we and EMUK will take certain steps, including:

  • Segregate Relevant Funds from any other funds; and
  • If any Relevant Funds are still held at the end of the business day following the day on which they were received, place them in a separate account that we hold with an authorised credit institution or the Bank of England.
As an API, we and EMUK are not protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (“FSCS”) and instead are required to safeguard funds which includes taking the steps described in clause 3. You can read more about how we are required to protect customer funds here on the FCA website
